jennifer elster’s untitled, 2022
“My first, public, visual art, was tagging my name in graffiti in NYC when I was about twelve. It seemed there were no other females doing graffitti at the time, so tagging “Jennifer” was letting them know, that in fact, there was. And I was good.” —Jennifer Elster
On view now in The Window Exhibition at The Development gallery

ROOFTOP PARK
April 30, 2022 The Rooftop Park, perhaps known to some as Sky Park, on Pier 57, South side of Chelsea Piers, was a delight. I was there yesterday. It was a weekday and I think it just opened, so it was not crowded. So we were particularly lucky for the view of Little Island and our patch in the grass.
The view here is of Little Island from The Rooftop Park.

On This Day David Bowie January 10th 2022
Me and Bowie. David was born two days ago and died on this day. Here are some photos of us working on his conceptual art album 1. Outside. The work featured here was a recreation of Rudolf Schwarzkogler’s 2 Aktion (1965). Of course I preferred the work we did together which came from my own imagination, but this was fun too. 1. Outside artwork in new boxset “Brilliant Adventure”.
.
If you haven’t read the interview on me by Francisco Beristain for David Bowie News, check here. Talks about the Window Exhibition at The Development gallery in Tribeca (which will include artifacts from 1. Outside). I also talk about my directorial film starring the late Karen Black —which I am currently obsessed with. Working on the soundtrack now.
.
Get Away From Me will appear in The Window Exhibition today, as a cheer and tribute to Bowie’s life!
To view my conceptual art visit here. These images were in Dek magazine
Cheers to Patti Smith
Watch the fantastic performance here of Patti Smith’s Because the Night Live from The Anthology Film Archives benefit, filmed by me (follow my YouTube Channel because I will be posting a lot more often).
The video is rough, but she sounds wonderful.
Special night.
I’m gonna have a drink and watch it.

SUPERWOLVES
Of the things which have brought me pleasure during these weird COVID 19 times this year is Matt Sweeney & Will Oldham’s latest Superwolves album. Tough and tender as they bring us through sweet ballads and down halls of wicked mischievousness.

I like this photo: burn and all. *It is a film still from a film project I did where Will was a subject ItWPathway. ItW:Pathway II will be out later this year.

Brighter! | Karen Black and Cass McCombs
So happy to see the video circulating of Karen Black singing Brighter! with Cass McCombs. The video was directed by Karen’s husband Stephen Eckelberry and was filmed in the studio at The Development (where the David Bowie exhibit is now).
Best spot in town.
The filming of this video was a nice memory. I also held Karen’s New York City memorial in the form of a tribute in The Development.
“DOUBLE PEACE” DAVID BOWIE AND JENNIFER ELSTER AND “GET AWAY FROM ME” FEATURING DAVID BOWIE
JUNE 30, 2021 - AUGUST 11, 2021
Double Peace, David Bowie and Jennifer Elster, will be on view at The Development gallery at 75 Leonard Street in Tribeca in a series of rotating window installations throughout the summer.
“When David and I first spoke on the phone about 1. Outside it was obvious the artistic boundaries between us were limitless. We went to deep, psychological places together to take the work further. We shared a mutual understanding through multiple mind sets and is why we seem so familiar with one another in the images of us together. “ — Jennifer Elster
Catch this exhibit and let’s see your #DoublePeace ✌ ✌
Jennifer will write more on this in the coming days

Happy Holidays from jennifer — perry como’s christmas songs
“T’is the season.
Let us celebrate if we are lucky to do!
Here is a photo I took of my wreath.
My cousin recently told me my grandfather played harp on Perry Como’s live show. I listened to Perry’s Christmas songs and it put me in the holiday mood so I posted the collection.
Listen along with me.
Friday at five I will have a martini with extra olive juice and raise my glass to all for our health and prosperity in whatever areas we wish to grow!”

World AIDS Day
“A perfect moment.
This photograph encapsulates so much
of what I love about
New York City
and it’s unexpected gaze.
The city I was born and raised
and still praise
even when it was struck by AIDS
or in its 9/11 phase
or mall days
or Covid haze
I still love its ways.
Ode to New York City.”

anthology film archives’ 50th anniversary
“Happy 50th anniversary to Anthology Film Archives!
I was so happy to perform at the New Museum in a group show curated by Heide Hatry that included Jonas Mekas.
Jonas performed a beautiful piece on Allen Ginsberg. I will share it on my channel sometime.
Jonas and I were going to get together and talk about my uncle , who died at a young age and who I never got to meet, who was an experimental filmmaker and who worked for him , but time wasn’t on our side.
If there are a few NYC institutions to keep afloat during this pandemic, obviously Anthology Archives would be in that top tier.
Congratulations Anthology Film Archives on defeating the odds so long and to Jonas’ legacy living on.
Donate here if you can!” —Jennifer Elster
This photo was from a benefit for Anthology where Patti Smith did a wonderful performance which I will share as well.

Help indigenous amazonian tribes who are stricken with covid-19
“Here is a special memory of sharing time with one of the indigenous leaders and defenders of Ecuador’s Amazon. We didn’t speak each other’s spoken language, but we got one another just the same. The Amazonian tribes that fight so hard to protect their territories and preserve our most natural resources are stricken with Covid 19 and desperately need help.
If you can give a little money, @amazonwatch is a route, or you can donate directly to Mujeres Amazonicas tribe on frontline here.
Thank you to Josh Mailman for hosting this special evening.” - - Jennifer Elster

Help Native Americans with theIR Covid-19 Crisis
“I’ve had many people over for dinner through the years, and this night was one of the most special. An evening of meaningful conversation, celebrating life and listening to the stories and concerns told by Native American leaders such as Former Standing Rock sioux tribal chairman David Archambault the II, Crystal Echo Hawk, Jodi of Wendventures and Chief Perry of the Ramapough Lenape nation, who have all persistently led and lead the way in preserving the rights and visibility of our Native American communities and history. Our Native tribes are suffering from Covid 19 and are in dire need of our help. The highest infection rates right now are in Native communities. Per Crystal Echo Hawk: if tribes were states, they would be the top 5 states for Covid infection rates-Mississippi Band of Choctaw, Zia Pueblo, Navajo Nation, White Mountain Apache, San Felipe Pueblo.
Please consider making a donation to NDN Collective. Every bit helps.” - - Jennifer Elster
